Lab Analyst

The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing, documenting, record checking, and troubleshooting qualitative and quantitative assays on samples using techniques that vary from the use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation.  This role participates in manufacturing QC support such as cleaning verification and environmental monitoring.

Location: Van Nuys, CA
Reporting To: Assigned Assay Lead/Supervisor
Status: Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Direct Reports: No

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Setup and test equipment in the laboratory to complete specific procedures.
  • Perform complex chemical tests on materials and samples as requested or assigned.
  • Interpret and evaluate data in terms of accuracy, precision, trends, and potential GMP impact.
  • Recommend appropriate corrective action related to test results when necessary.
  • Comprehend and perform routine and non-routine analyses from compendial and internal sources.
  • Author routine assay protocols and conduct assay, process, and instrument qualifications.
  • Regularly display good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentified samples.  
  • Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment by making calibrations, cleaning, replacing parts, and otherwise ensuring ongoing proper working order.  Report equipment issues to supervisor.
  • Manage inventory supplies and alert supervisor in advance when materials must be ordered.
  • Maintain high productivity, keen attention to detail, and consistent multi-tasking while yielding a low testing error rate.
  • Participate in laboratory investigations as requested or assigned.
  • Promote a strong customer service culture while adhering to the highest safety and industry standards, including those that are outlined by the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC).
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one high complexity technology (i.e. HPLC, uHPLC, GC, advanced spectroscopy, etc.) or at least two or more low-medium complexity technologies (i.e. TLC, titrations, wet chemistry/physical testing, water testing, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain an incredibly high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong agility, engagement, and flexibility in an ever-changing environment.
  • Diligent commitment to logging, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced deadline environment while successfully managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong understanding of standard laboratory protocol.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work, problem solve, and communicate with multiple levels of the organization.

Education and Experience

  • Required: An associate of applied science or bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, chemistry a related field from a four-year college or university.
  • Required: Knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.
  • Preferred: At least two (2) years of relevant quality operations experience.
  • Optional: Exposure to the cannabis industry.

R&D Scientist

The R&D Scientist is responsible for leading all new development of service offerings, participating in various research efforts, evaluating equipment, and being involved with the lab staff to support their technical needs.  This role may also lead lab staff during certain assigned projects.  The R&D Scientist is accountable for knowing and following all Company policies and standards.

Status: Regular Full-Time, Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Routinely review analysis of samples using analytical procedures for which training has occurred.
  • Obtain traceable, reproducible, and reliable results with limited supervision.
  • Create and update laboratory technical procedures associated with various assays, in partnership with the Laboratory Director.
  • Perform and be responsible for initial data quality and review.
  • Train technical staff on procedures and techniques.
  • Participate in both lab audits and investigations, as necessary.
  • Monitor the maintenance of analytical instrumentation for both routine and non-routine needs.
  • Evaluate both OOS and CAPA reports with the Laboratory Director and Quality department.
  • Take the lead on customer complaints and provide needed insight from the laboratory.
  • Provided opinions and interpretations when necessary regarding the quality and meaning of analytical data contained within analytical reports provided to customers.
  • Build strong internal, external, and cross-functional relationships.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Ability to maintain an incredibly high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidence, confidentially, and composure during difficult and/or complex situations.

Education and Experience

  • Required: A bachelor’s degree in a science field from a four-year college or university plus at least five (5) years of relevant analytical laboratory experience.  Or, a MS or PhD degree in a science field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant analytical laboratory experience.
  • Required: Advanced knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.
  • Preferred: Supervisory/management experience.
  • Optional: Exposure to the cannabis industry.

Sales Assistant

The Sales Assistant is charged with providing general administrative support for the Sales team.  This includes serving as a resource during all stages of the sales process, with a focus on supporting key accounts and other time-sensitive needs.

Location: North Hills, CA
Reporting To: Vice President of Sales
Status: Regular Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily ETA reports for key accounts.
  • Support effective sales data management by adding, confirming, and updating notes across a variety of programs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve our data collection, tracking, and reporting processes.
  • Monitor published goals and provide updates regarding progress.
  • Act as a point-of-contact for customer support.
  • In partnership with the Sales team, research and qualify new leads.
  • Prepare and provide reports, invoices, and other electronic and physical documentation as requested.
  • Maintain current knowledge of our products and services.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced deadline environment while successfully managing multiple tasks.
