Quality Manager

The Quality Manager is responsible for the implementation of CannaSafe’s quality program and ensuring all laboratory activities are in compliance with BCC regulations and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.  This role is accountable for knowing and following all Company policies and standards, leads by example, and lives our values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team with dynamic leadership that promotes an environment of support, development, engagement, and high productivity.  This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, coaching, performance management, ensuring productivity, disciplinary action, cross-training, rewards and recognition, and succession planning.
  • Ensure quality assurance/control compliance and standardization.  This requires maintaining current knowledge of internal and external standards, with particular focus on BCC and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Create, manage, and facilitate the quality scorecard.
  • Effectively communicate quality policies and procedures to all levels of laboratory staff.
  • Establish and maintain documentation and record controls and procedures.
  • Develop and implement quality procedures and standards to ensure production activities meet compliance standards.
  • Create and update laboratory policies and procedures associated with various assays, in partnership with the Lab Director and Quality department.
  • Monitor laboratory data performance and customer complaints with tracking and establish corrective measures as needed.  Prepare detailed reports, including current, trending, forecasting.
  • Manage internal and external audits.  Investigate findings, work with the affected department(s) to develop appropriate corrective and/or preventive actions, document the findings, and perform appropriate follow-up.  Evaluate the efficacy of implemented corrective/preventive methods.
  • Generate audit reports and schedule review with appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the proficiency testing (PT) program for the laboratory.  This includes PT vendor evaluation, purchasing PT samples, scheduling PT tests, and reviewing submissions.
  • Monitor relevant data for performance and trends using statistical methods.
  • Build strong internal, external, and cross-functional relationships.

Microbiology Supervisor

The Microbiology Supervisor is responsible for the overall production of the Micro assay.  This includes knowing and following all Company policies and standards, complying with ISO/IEC 17025 standards, overseeing technical procedures, leading by example, and living our values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team with dynamic leadership that promotes an environment of support, development, engagement, and high productivity.  This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, coaching, performance management, ensuring productivity, disciplinary action, cross-training, rewards and recognition, and succession planning.
  • Drive a strong customer service culture while adhering to the highest ethical and safety standards.
  • Ensure production and quality 3-day turnaround time is met, and, where applicable, exceeded.
  • Control costs.  This includes managing expenses related to operational activities, such as equipment, labor, and supplies.
  • Create and update laboratory technical procedures (analytical or prep methods).
  • Enforce quality policies.  Train technical staff on procedures and techniques.
  • Maintain the department’s staff schedule.  This includes approving time sheets, time-off requests, establishing proactive coverage plans, and similar.
  • Participate in all internal and external audits.
  • Track and maintain daily production to ensure turnaround time is met.
  • Help maintain inventory supplies.  This includes order requests and storage of materials (i.e. analytical reference materials).
  • Monitor the maintenance of analytical instrumentation.

Sales Executive

The Sales Executive is responsible for generating new business, as well as maintaining and deepening our existing customer relationships.  This includes sourcing, coordinating with, and meeting potential customers in the industry that have cannabis testing needs.  Primary areas of focus are identifying new customers, promoting existing customer retention, and successfully onboarding new accounts.  This role is an outside sales position.

  • Provide the highest level of customer service at all times.  This is a relationship business.
  • Partner with cannabis professionals to educate them regarding testing requirements and benefits that CannaSafe delivers (our value proposition).

Sales Assistant

The Sales Assistant is charged with providing general administrative support for the Sales team.  This includes serving as a resource during all stages of the sales process, with a focus on supporting key accounts and other time-sensitive needs.  The role’s priority is to facilitate effective communication between our lab and our customers.

Lab Analyst

The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing, documenting, record checking, and troubleshooting qualitative and quantitative assays on samples using techniques that vary from the use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation.  This role participates in manufacturing QC support such as cleaning verification and environmental monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Setup and test equipment in the laboratory to complete specific procedures.
  • Perform complex chemical tests on materials and samples as requested or assigned.
  • Interpret and evaluate data in terms of accuracy, precision, trends, and potential GMP impact.
  • Recommend appropriate corrective action related to test results when necessary.
  • Comprehend and perform routine and non-routine analyses from compendial and internal sources.
  • Author routine assay protocols and conduct assay, process, and instrument qualifications.
  • Regularly display good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentified samples.  
  • Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment by making calibrations, cleaning, replacing parts, and otherwise ensuring ongoing proper working order.  Report equipment issues to supervisor.
  • Manage inventory supplies and alert supervisor in advance when materials must be ordered.
  • Maintain high productivity, keen attention to detail, and consistent multi-tasking while yielding a low testing error rate.

Lab Technician

The Lab Technician is responsible for working closely with our laboratory team to develop analytical skills and related experience.  This role works in an environment where various techniques are employed that vary from the use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation.  Although the Lab Technician does not perform data review, the skill sets developed by training with the team require keen attention to detail and a foundational understanding of scientific principles.

  • Ensure the Intake area is clean and well-organized.

  • Prepare equipment and plant materials for extraction.
  • Maintain physical and electronic records.  This department oversees strict recordkeeping of all equipment, chemical, and plant materials used in the laboratory.
  • Appropriately store equipment and supplies.  This includes, but is not limited to, waste management and disposal, cleaning working areas, and ensuring storerooms are immaculate.
  • Monitor inventory and supplies.  Sterilize items as needed.
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all departments.

Field Sampler (Driver)

The Field Sampler is responsible for conducting routine pickups and processing of regulatory compliance as well as R&D samples for laboratory analysis.  This includes accurately recording sample and chain of custody documentation and the safe and secure transportation of all samples to the laboratory.

  • Perform onsite field sampling pickups in accordance with all laws and regulations related to the legal cannabis market and laboratory operating procedures.

  • Remain steadily connected to Sales to understand their needs.  Generate media accordingly, and in alignment with the Senior Executive Team’s brand vision.
  • Create visual concepts that captivate, inform, and inspire employees and customers.
  • Meet with internal and external parties to discuss design ideas, timelines, and other project elements.
  • Use digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout programs to create innovative designs.
  • Test graphics across various platforms to ensure consistency and general display.
  • Participate in the advancement of our brand and make recommendations for how to better position our Company through the use of graphic design.
  • Carefully review designs for errors and inconsistencies prior to printing or publishing.
  • Obtain necessary approvals from key stakeholders prior to finalizing media assets.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by researching new design techniques and utilizing free online learning programs/tutorials whenever possible.
  • Conduct market research to understand current and emerging trends, as well as the competitive landscape with respect to media initiatives.
  • Establish a brand standard format and quality for our media.
  • Develop internal promotional materials, including those that document our Company’s history and for employee training purposes.
  • Create and propose budgets for the graphic design function to the Senior Executive Team.  Adhere to those figures once established.
  • Identify metrics to measure ROI for media projects.
  • Develop and maintain a digital project calendar and database of all assets.  Ensure turnaround time is consistently met.
  • Generate stock media for Corporate use.
  • Assist in creating social media content and remaining aware of developing trends to proactively position our campaigns for success.
  • Identify brand deviations and report to appropriate internal Leadership.
  • Build strong internal, external, and cross-functional relationships.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Ability to maintain an incredibly high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidence, confidentially, and composure during difficult and/or complex situations.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced deadline environment while successfully managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work, influence, problem solve, and communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of camera, lighting, and audio equipment, paired with strong eye for design and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) and Canva.

Education and Experience

  • Required: A bachelor’s degree in a related field from a four-year college or university plus at least three (3) years of relevant graphic design/marketing experience.
  • Required: Experience in graphic design production, including art balance.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.
  • Optional: Exposure to the cannabis industry.

Video Editor

The Video Editor is responsible for supporting the coordination and creation of all internal and external photo and video assets.

Location: Van Nuys, CA
Reporting To: VP of Business Development
Status: Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Marketing team, remain steadily connected to Sales to understand their needs.  Generate media accordingly, and in alignment with the Senior Executive Team’s brand vision.
  • Provide video editing from raw footage to final deliverables using Company equipment.
  • Create quality media product for VIP customers as well as Corporate purposes.
  • Work closely with the Marketing team to ensure all editing is delivered to achieve project timelines.
  • Provide video, lighting, and related equipment setup.  This includes operating cameras and similar on-location photography.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of our media equipment and regularly transport/setup/teardown backdrops, lighting, cameras, and related supplies.
  • As directed by the Marketing team, facilitate ongoing, effective communication regarding media shoots.  This may include coordinating with locations to ensure access and availability, helping guests prepare and navigate the process, providing timely updates when plans adjust, and following-up to understand/measure the experience for those involved.
  • Participate in maintaining a digital project calendar and database of all assets.  Ensure turnaround time is consistently met.
  • Support employee headshot and video interview needs.
  • Generate stock media for Corporate use.
  • Assist in creating social media content and remaining aware of developing trends to proactively position our campaigns for success.
  • Identify brand deviations and report to appropriate internal Leadership.
