Yes, we can! Our team of samplers live up and down the great state of California. Please contact us to schedule a pick-up.
For non-compliance testing, you can sample your own batch or product and prepare it for pick-up, drop-off, or mailing (in the case of hemp, or any products below the legal limit of 0.3% THC).
The required sample amount depends on the number and type of analyses you are looking to have done. Please contact us and we’ll help you determine the required sample amount based on your product type and needs.
For more on how to sample for an R&D batch, please watch this short video.
During compliance testing, a CannaSafe sampler will conduct a “batch sampling” onsite at your facility based on the type of product. For example, during a harvest batch sampling, a sampler must acquire a sample weighing 0.35% of the total harvest batch weight, with the maximum size for a single harvest batch being 50 pounds. All other batch sampling, including pre-rolls, are not completed by weight, but by unit count. The number of samples the sampler will collect is based on the number of units in the batch. The maximum number of units per batch that samples can represent is 150,000.
You are more than welcome to drop your R&D samples off at our laboratory front desk, or we can arrange for courier pick up.
If you are submitting samples for state compliance testing, we will need to arrange for a CannaSafe Sampler to come and collect your sample(s) onsite at your facility.
To arrange for a sample pick-up, please email email@example.com or call (818) 922-2416.
Current clients may also schedule a sample pick-up thru our client portal.
For clients needing to set up recurring pick-up, please let our team know and we’ll get that set up for you.
Yes! We can receive any/all cannabis or hemp samples for testing, just as long as they are below the 0.3% THC threshold.

It depends. Please call our front desk at (818) 922-2416 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss.
We currently offer a standard 3–5 day turnaround time with options for expedited/rush orders. Depending on when you place your order, we can even offer same-day results. Please reach out to us for details, as certain tests require more time. Timelines will be discussed prior to beginning testing.
Your results will not be made publicly available unless you specifically request them to be.
The easiest way to access your results/COA would be to log into our client portal.
The Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) implemented cannabis testing in California at the start of 2018 upon recreational legalization, requiring that all cannabis products sold legally in the state must undergo Compliance Testing. California is currently in Phase 3 of compliance testing regulations as of January 2019.
Compliance testing requirements are separated by the type of matrix or category, and there are three: flower, inhalable, and others. Flower refers to the harvested product and smokable cannabis plant, inhalable refers to vapes and concentrates, and others include edibles, tinctures, topicals, and suppositories.
To pass Phase 3 Compliance testing, a sample must be tested for cannabinoid and terpenoid content, as well as pass for pesticides, residual solvents, microbials, mycotoxins, heavy metals, foreign matter, moisture and water activity.
If you are not state-licensed, you are still able to submit samples for analysis, but you will not be able to submit samples for compliance testing.
If you are state-licensed and your current laboratory is not, you have to perform compliance testing with a state-licensed lab.
CannaSafe was the first ISO accredited cannabis lab in the world. Unlike most labs, we are accredited for all compliance testing assays (methods) we offer. In addition to each assay, CannaSafe is also accredited to test for each analyte within each assay.
ISO:17025 accreditation is the single most important standard for calibration and testing laboratories world-wide. This type of accreditation ensures proven technical competency for your lab by a third party. Your lab must be accredited for all compliance tests (and all analytes for those tests) in order to get accurate, quality data on your product(s).
We have specialized testing programs to help ensure consistency throughout the supply chain. We test with all levels of the supply chain to address variability from cultivation to manufacturing to distribution.
Testing throughout the supply chain allows cultivators/manufacturers/distributors to make more informed business decisions. Lab–to–lab variability and inter-lab variability poses significant financial and operational burden. Having one lab providing testing for your entire supply chain reduces the chance of inaccurate results, communication issues, and late-stage identification of problems that could have been avoided if they were uncovered and addressed/remediated earlier in the supply chain.
Unfortunately, failures happen. We have the tools and support to help our clients identify the source of the failure. In addition, our team can help navigate the remediation request process through to CDFA and BCC.
Many laboratories do not have the capacity or experience to offer guidance through the failure and remediation process. CannaSafe has the time–tested experience and personnel to help ease the pain during these unfortunate circumstances.
Yes! We offer customized training on the compliance sampling process to ensure a seamless testing experience.
Navigating the regulatory waters is one of the most difficult aspects of running a licensed cannabis business. Not everyone has time or experience needed to read and interpret every detail of the state regulations. We’ve dealt with every type of roadblock you can imagine, and understanding the regulatory compliance testing process is critical to the success of all cannabis businesses.
Let us walk your staff through the process to help you avoid common mistakes and headaches.
CannaSafe offers various additional safety tests outside of state requirements. These tests include, but are not limited to, accelerated shelf life studies, Vitamin E Acetate, Nutrient Analysis, Plant Gender/Sex Testing, and yeast/mold testing.
